Christmas

Now that Thanksgiving is over, everyone can now go into that Christmas mode, so crank up the music and bring out the eggnog!

Thanksgiving

Had a great thanksgiving and did some successful Black Friday shopping without getting trampled on.

Hostess

I'm going to buy a bunch of Twinkies and wait a few years to sell them so I can make a profit.

Too Early for Christmas

I hate the fact that stores are already advertising for Christmas shopping and radio stations are playing Christmas music when it is not even Thanksgiving yet. Stupid commercialism.

Another Civil War?

Apparently there is talk going around of Michigan being one of 11 states that wants to secede from the U.S. Seriously, WTF?

President

I'm not one for politics, but it seems like the country is going to deteriorate no matter who won the election. Obama has not done a good job in four years, and now we have him for four more years. Romney would have just treated the country like a big business.

This sucks

Not only did Obama get re-elected, but I locked my keys in my car, and I've got 24 hours to get an 8-10 page paper done. How could this day get any worse?

Wreck-It Ralph

I saw the midnight showing of Wreck-It Ralph, and it was an amazing movie. It is about a bad guy in an arcade game that wants to become hero. With so many video game references, this movie is not only the best animated film of the year, it is the best video game movie of all time.

Florida

I had a wonderful time in Florida. I stayed in a condo on the beach with my father and brothers. The weather was amazing. Luckily I was able to fly back before the huge storm kicked in.

Just one more class and I'm off to Florida for fall break. Booyah!

Fall break

I'm going down to Florida for fall break. My father and two brothers live there. My father rented out a condo near the beach for us to stay in. It's going to be an awesome week.

Video Game Show

Ohio State has earned my respect. The Marching Band put on an impressive halftime show with a video game theme. they had Mario, Pokemon, Tetris, Halo, but the best one by far was Zelda because the band got into the form of Epona (the horse) and made it gallop. You only get points for that Ohio State, nothing else.

Still have Internet?

For some reason we still have internet at my house even though Comcast was suppose to take it away. That's awesome, but I hope they don't charge us extra for it.

No Internet

My housemates are switching from Comcast internet to AT&T. While transitioning, we will have to go for a certain amount of time without internet at my house. Today is suppose to be the day that we lose the internet, so I will have to go to Aquinas whenever I want to get online.

Finally done

I had a great run with Amadeus. But now that the play is over, I'm not going to audition for the next one. Instead I'm going to audition for Chicago later on and the free time I now have.

Amadeus

Opening night for the play was a great success. Come and see the play this weekend.

Lost phone

Today I found an iPhone in one of the stalls in the men's restroom. Turns out it belonged to a student working for Campus Safety.

Theater

This week is opening week for Aquinas' performance of Amadeus, which I am a part of. It has been a long month of rehearsal, but this play is going to be awesome.

The Avengers

I ordered The Avengers on DVD through Amazon and got it for $17. Pretty sweet deal, considering that I have already spent around $30 to see it in theaters four times already. It is now my most favorite movie of all time.

Careers

I've been thinking a lot lately about doing voice acting for a career. A lot of people have told me that there really aren't that many job openings out there for acting in general. In case I can't find anything in that area, I'm also planning on going into news broadcasting as a fallback, mainly as an anchor man.

Flash Flood

Apparently an emergency sprinkler in Apartment D accidentally went off and caused massive water damage. Everyone in Apartment D had to temporarily move out for the mess to get cleaned up. Someone even got injured because the pressure of the water coming out was so high.

Voice

For as long as I can remember, I've always had a naturally deep voice. Because of that, I've always wanted to go into a career where I get to use my voice. I primarily want to go into news broadcasting, either for news TV or radio. However, recently I've considered going into voice-over acting. I could do the voices of characters from TV shows, voice over commercials, or narrate movie trailers.

AQ Sound

We had our first meeting for AQ Sound today. AQ Sound is the college's internet radio station that is run by students who do their own live radio shows. I am currently the Programming Director/Vice President of AQ Sound, and I've done my own radio shows in the past.

What's Happening Here?

There have been four sexually related incidents on or near campus in the last two weeks since school started. As far as I know, that has never happened here before, and that is just messed up. Twice is a coincidence, but four times, something is defiantly going on around here.

Crazy Things

While I was working my usual 12am-3am shift last night, there were apparently people who were jumping in and out of dorm windows, and campus safety had to do a whole investigation on it. It does seem weird, especially since there have been three cases of sexual assault/abuse on or near campus. Nothing like that has ever happened before since I've been here.

Long Hours

I've been working the front desk from 12am-6am every day this week except Wed because none of my co-workers signed up to take the 3-6am shift on any day permanently. I'm suppose to only work 12-3am, but until we get new students hired, I'm stuck working six hours on most days. Up side: I get payed a lot more and get plenty of time to do homework. Down side: I get really tired during classes.

Saint Stock

Had to represent AQ Sound and the Game Club today at Saint Stock today. I went extremely well. Over 80 students signed up to join AQ Sound, the radio station here at Aquinas. Not sure if that many people will actually show up at the first meeting, but we should still get a good amount of people. Now I'm probably going to have to work the front desk from midnight to six again....

Still Alive

Well, I've survived the first week of college. Hard to say whether or not I'm looking forward to the rest of the semester. It just seems like there is so much going on that it is hard to keep track of everything. However, I am grateful that I'm actually in college, have a place to live, and have a job. I just hope that my grades will be better than last year.

In the Beginning

Welcome one and all. For those of you who don't know, my name is John, and I'm a college student trying to figure out what to do with my life. You should know that I'm not a blogger, but I have been required to create a blog for one of my classes, and I have to write in it every day. I don't know if I'll continue this blog once I'm done with the class, but we'll just have to wait and see....

You are probably wondering why I have named this blog "The Front Desk". The reason is that I work on campus at the front desk at one of the residence halls. The interesting thing is that I work the graveyard shift almost everyday, so almost everyone is asleep and I have the place to myself.

It will be interesting to see where this goes. Until then, stay classy!
